The Crown Inn is a 16th century family-run free house sitting right on Groombridge village green, just a short walk from the cottage. Low beams, an inglenook fireplace, good food, local ales, and a history involving smugglers, Sherlock Holmes and Keira Knightley.

The Bottle House is a stunning 15th century free house in Penshurst, known for its seasonal menu, local ales and a gorgeous copper-topped bar. The food is a real highlight — locally sourced, beautifully cooked, and well worth booking ahead. Note: check ahead as it recently underwent refurbishment.

The Spotted Dog - Pub
The Spotted Dog is a Grade II listed 16th century weatherboarded pub perched on a hillside in Penshurst, with sweeping countryside views from the tiered terrace. Under new ownership since 2025, it now has a brilliant twist — slow-smoked Carolina-style barbecue alongside the pub classics, local ales and a very dog-friendly welcome.

Blue India is a popular Indian restaurant and takeaway on Langton Road, consistently praised for its flavourful food, friendly service and generous portions. A great option for a curry night out or an easy delivery back to the cottage.

Bills - Brasserie
Bill's is a reliable all-day brasserie right in the centre of Tunbridge Wells, open from breakfast through to dinner. Relaxed, buzzy atmosphere with a broad menu covering British classics, burgers, brunch and good options for vegetarians and vegans — great for families and groups.

Cantuccio is a small, hugely popular artisan pizzeria on Camden Road in Tunbridge Wells, serving 12" Roman-style sourdough pizzas with quality local ingredients. The dough ferments for 72 hours — light, crispy and seriously good. Book ahead, it fills up fast.

Kiko is Tunbridge Wells' best Japanese restaurant, serving beautifully fresh sushi, sashimi and yakitori in a cool, intimate space. The dragon rolls are legendary and the staff are genuinely warm and knowledgeable. Book ahead — it fills up fast and for good reason.

Jade's Palace is a long-established, family-run Chinese restaurant in Crowborough, consistently rated the best in the area. Friendly service, generous portions, great value and a warm welcome from owner Ken make it well worth a visit. Book ahead — it's always busy.
